Behind every weave is a name, a village, a lifetime.

Every saree on Atulya Karigari is made by a real person, with a real name, working in a real village. Not a factory. Not anonymous labour. A weaver you can now meet, read about, and choose to support.

Khandua Silk Weaving — Tie & Dye Ikat

INTRODUCTION

Namaste! I am a weaver from Nuapatna, Odisha. For four generations, the art of weaving Khandua Silk in my family was passed down strictly to men. Breaking age-old traditions, I am proud to be the very first woman in my family to sit at the loom and weave.

ABOUT THE ART

Nuapatna's legendary Khandua Silk is a divine craft, traditionally woven with sacred verses and intricate ikat motifs for Lord Jagannath. Hand-woven with pure silk and exquisite precision, this heritage textile carries centuries of spiritual energy, vibrant colors, and unparalleled Odia craftsmanship that I now bring to life with my own hands.

HIS JOURNEY

Stepping into a craft that was historically reserved for men was not easy, but Atulya Karigari gave me the wings to fly. Holding the shuttle and creating my first weave felt like reclaiming my destiny. Today, I am not just creating a livelihood; I am earning respect and paving the way for other women.

LEGACY

By shattering the glass ceiling in my family, I am changing the future of Nuapatna's handloom heritage, proving that a daughter can carry forward the legacy of Khandua Silk with equal grace, skill, and pride.
