KNOW YOUR ARTISAN

Behind every weave is a name, a village, a lifetime.

Every saree on Atulya Karigari is made by a real person, with a real name, working in a real village. Not a factory. Not anonymous labour. A weaver you can now meet, read about, and choose to support.

Madan Chichinda

Sambalpuri Cotton (IKAT)

INTRODUCTION

Namaskar! I am Madan Chichinda from Bargarh, Odisha, a land known for the intricate beauty of Sambalpuri cotton. For years, I have dedicated my life to keeping this heritage art alive despite challenges from powerloom imitations flooding the market.

ABOUT THE ART

Sambalpuri IKAT is a masterpiece of patience and skill, where threads are tie-dyed before weaving to create intricate patterns that mirror on both sides. This tradition, deeply rooted in Odisha's culture, tells stories of nature, mythology, and heritage through every weave, making each piece timeless and meaningful.

HIS JOURNEY

Since joining Atulya Karigari in 2021, I have proudly resisted the lure of powerloom production. Through Atulya's platform, my work now reaches people who value authenticity, and I have inspired fellow weavers to protect the purity of our craft.

LEGACY

Atulya Karigari continues to carry forward the old tradition, ensuring Sambalpuri weaving thrives for generations to come.
