How to care for and store your sarees
Follow the care instructions for the individual saree. Fibre, dye, finish and embellishment can change the correct treatment, so avoid one wash rule for an entire collection.
Start with the product’s own instructions
Read the care field before the first wear or cleaning. Some silk and delicate woven pieces call for professional dry cleaning. A cotton label does not automatically mean machine washing is suitable, particularly when the piece has a special finish or detailing.
If instructions are missing or unclear, ask the team rather than testing a method on a visible section. Tell them the exact product and the problem you want to solve. A general care guide cannot replace instructions specific to a dye or finish.
Keep storage clean, dry and breathable
Let the saree dry fully before storing it, and avoid a damp cupboard or direct sunlight. A breathable cotton or muslin cover can help separate it from rough surfaces and fastenings. Store it away from items that could catch delicate yarns.
Refold occasionally so that one sharp crease does not remain in the same place indefinitely. When taking a piece out for an occasion, inspect it early enough to address any issue without hurried treatment on the day you plan to wear it.
Handle stains and accessories thoughtfully
Avoid applying perfume directly to the cloth. Jewellery, pins and bag fastenings can catch fine threads, so take care when arranging the outfit. If a stain occurs, note what caused it and ask for suitable treatment instead of rubbing or applying an untested cleaner.
For a dry-clean-only piece, tell the cleaner about delicate borders and detailing. Keep the original care information for reference. Good care should follow what the particular piece needs, rather than assuming an expensive saree will tolerate every everyday cleaning method.
